CHAPTER 15

NINA

Iran up the stairs instead of taking the lift in order to release the adrenaline pent up inside me after the car ride. I had driven powerful racing cars before, having possessed them after killing their owner so that I could sell them to feed my people, but gosh, never had I ever driven such a sweet ride as Alex’s car. Nor did it seem Alex had driven it properly.

Grandpa cruiser.

The look on his face had been priceless.

I got into my apartment and started taking my clothes off, but as I put my phone on the kitchen table, the screen lit up and I noticed I had an unread message.

I launched the message board and saw that it was from Devon.

Obviously!

I tapped it to display, and the rich-boy-who-gets-what-he-wants’ demand was shown fully.

‘Let me know when you have arrived home safely.’

I felt tempted to answer that I would message him as soon as I had finished having sex with Alex. That would put a spanner in the works, but I knew it wasn’t wise, as I had no idea what was going on with my bonds to both him and Alex. And there was still something about Devon that was off.

It wasn’t normal for a blood bender to feel so sick after having had some bending manipulations done to them. I had heard of ancient sects of blood benders who were supposed to have different types of blood power, but I would expect them to be more resilient and not become bed bound from a petty nosebleed.

Besides, on some plane, he had recognised me as his queen.

I looked at the demanding message again. I could decide not to answer him at all. But would I find an entire battalion breaking down my door before midnight?

I wouldn’t rule that out.

I sighed and then replied.

‘Home.’

I didn’t have to wait long for another message to come through. He was quick at typing.

‘Thank you for the prompt reply.’

Always the gentleman. My people needed someone like him–a strong leader who knew etiquette. I knew how to behave like a proper lady, too, but I just hated when I had to do so. He seemed to do it by choice. Alex, however, was a completely different kettle of fish. Although, I seemed to have found his weak spot.

‘You need to teach Alex how to drive.’

I laughed out loud as I received Devon’s response.

‘I’m sure he’ll appreciate my advice.’

So, Mister Rich knew about sarcasm.

He was charming.

Too charming.

I wondered whether I in fact had become emotionally attached to him in a way I shouldn’t. I recognised the danger, especially considering Mister Saggra’s announced hit list. I’d have to be satisfied to only take out the other targets, as in all fairness, Devon didn’t deserve to be vanquished by my hands.

I prepared to send him my final message, which took all the strength I had in me, as my bond was warning me to stop typing and my inner queen was scolding me to no end.
